DofE is open to any young person aged 14-24 and is structured into Bronze, Silver, and Gold which increase in challenge and duration. The RAFAC also have a Blue DofE badge for those not old enough to enter at the Bronze level.

The RAFAC blue foundation leadership course which is an introduction to the principles of leadership and the practical use of SMEAC (Situation, Mission, Execution, Any Questions, Check Understanding) in leadership scenarios.
The bronze basic leadership course is an introduction to action centred leadership, leadership styles and techniques.
The silver intermediate leadership course explores teamwork, group dynamics, leadership culture, followership, roles, management verses leadership, target setting, prioritisation, delegation, team and individual leadership and practical leadership exercises.
To achieve the gold leadership badge cadets must complete a challenging leadership programme that produces a high level of competency and develops the potential for leadership instructors.
The RAFAC has a comprehensive First Aid training programme supported by St John Ambulance. Training begins with Essential First Aid (Blue) where the cadet has to show competency in performing CPR as well as understanding bleeds, choking, shock. The training continues to Youth First Aid (bronze), Activity First Aid (Silver) to Gold First Aid which is a national course.
The RAFAC aviation syllabus starts with the blue aviation training package (ATP) which introduces cadets to aeronautical concepts including the primary and further effects of controls, lift vectors and airfield procedures. Also ground school training, part task trainer and a sortie in a powered aircraft (AEF) or at a gliding school (VGS).
After achieving blue wings you can progress to solo flights or scholarships to gain your private pilots licence (PPL) as well as other flying opportunities.

After a successful assessment when all blue, bronze, silver and gold levels have been completed, the new training syllabus can lead to a BTEC Level 2 in Space Studies
Sports of all kinds are very important to the RAFAC and encourage all cadets to take part, regardless of winning or losing.

We also take part in Wing organised Inter-Squadron athletics, swimming and Cross Country events.
The winners of these events go on to represent West Mercian Wing
